If you can help with any of these events, email, call us, shout to us from hilltops. The Ladle is as successful and motivated as all its members. With every ounce of participation from any of you, the ladle can grow like the tomatoes in the garden, ripen and enhance this food movement, enhance Dal’s community and build something sturdy and strong that we can all be apart of. Let’s move on…
New Spaces, New hours, New faces, NEW look! Wow!!!
Very exciting news to the ears and mouths of hungry students…We have a semi-permanent space…in the SUB. You know where the fire place is, where we used to serve…just up from there, what used to be known as Booster Juice is now The Ladle Space…Yes!!! and actual counter top, just to serve you some awesome food (3 days a week, should volunteer and cooking space allow) Pretty amazing, right? We are so very, very ecstatic!!!
The hope is that we’ll be able to garner up enough support to be “open” all day long 5 days a week. We won’t be able to serve food all day long, but maybe some carrot sticks and coffee. Tell us what you think we could do and of course, get in touch with us if you want to volunteer for an hour or two through out the week. Building a good, steady base of happily fed volunteers is our biggest goal for the up-coming year. Did I mention how very excited we are???
And did you see the Loaded Ladle facebook profile official website. Well…thanks to Hugh Colohan for all his hard work over the summer in creating this new look. Your dedication is not unnoticed. If you want to help us make buttons, patches, have other ideas for media tools, Hugh will be working on this for the next couple of weeks.
Health and Safety, Food Handling Safety
The deal is we want to get everyone food safety certified. This just means that you would be a little more aware of heating and cooling temperatures, helping keep an eye out for hand-washing, that everyone has aprons and hats on while in the kitchen. It’s a lot of basic stuff around food and if you’ve ever worked in the industry, you’ve probably been through it a million times. Having awareness for these food safety “rules” help us maintain the trust of everyone around us so that we can keep growing and building, maybe soon we can be a 5 day a week operation…with your help of course/
So, if you are interested in getting your certificate, email us. If there is enough people who are interested we might be able to swing having a course in September. I know it would make Chef Tom from Chartwell’s pretty happy to know that we are health and safety conscious.
Common Roots Urban Farm Garden Party (Sept 22)
The ladle has a plot in the farm and has just been given two more that we need to plant up! If you are interested in planting drop by the plots are labelled with The Loaded Ladle, throw some seeds in and water. Feel free just to go and do it. Seriously, and maybe send an email or post on the FB if you do, so that others know that’s it’s been done. Lettuce, is the way to go, this late in the fall…also carrots and garlic if there are any seeds left.
There will be a great big party for the community on Sept. 22, if you are interested in participating with the ladle or with the garden, there’s lots to do. Some people are heading up large art projects that definitely need volunteers. And there may even be some kind of bike riding garden tour of the city…Email us!!!! This is the good stuff that gardens are made for. And nibbling, of course!!!!
Of course, we haven’t thought of everything. If you have an event that you think the ladle could be involved in talk to us! If you think of something you want to contribute to the ladle…contribute away, also talk to us, so we know. If you want to lead a workshop and need help or supplies, talk to us!!! If you feel we’ve missed something, anything at all, talk to us!!! We are after open, transparent communication all the way.
If you made it this far, thanks for sticking with it.
Raise your ladles
Raise your voice
Raise your thoughts and your spoon
we’re taking choice back, food back –
matters of our hearts back and it’s free-mostly
the students are coming, actually we’re here
Raise your ladles
Raise your mind
Raise the moment with no fear.
With much sunshine love
