Lunch and Learn #2: Commercialization of Food

Tuesday, November 20, 1-2pm Loaded Ladle serving area, Dal SUB

Another informal lunch and learn with the Loaded Ladle. If you want to join our discussion, you can jump to the front of the Ladle line!
We’ll be chatting about food as a basic human right and how food has become commercialized, as well as looking at ways people are pushing back against this. We’ll be sitting and eating together in the comfy chairs by the windows until around 2:00; feel free to come and go if you need to go to class!

Dalhousie Oxfam Presents: The Hunger Banquet

Thursday, November 22, 5:30-7pm, Dal SUB                                                                                     Solidarity Serving by the Loaded Ladle

The Hunger Banquet is a banquet-style meal and advocacy event. While sharing a meal together you will have the chance to engage in a mediated discussion and presentation on food security both locally and abroad. We’d love to have your voice as part of our conversation about local and global food inequalities and advocacy for Oxfam.

This event will feature guest speakers from Feed Nova Scotia and Oxfam Canada. Donations of non-perishable food items for Feed NS food banks are much appreciated!

The Dalhousie and King’s Oxfam Society is a small group that works to raise awareness on global inequalities in resources and aid, particularly for females. We host events, set up petitions and discuss local and global issues in relation to Oxfam campaigns that we believe should have more exposure on campus.

*PLEASE ONLY RSVP ON EVENTBRITE IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND AS WE NEED A DEFINITE NUMBER OF ATTENDEES FOR THE EVENT TO RUN SMOOTHLY.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Crystal Crescent Seaweed Foray

Thursday, November 22, 9am – 12 noon

It’s that time of year where we need to put the DUGS garden to bed. Loaded Ladlers and DUGS are teaming up to go on a little road trip to the beach to gather some seaweed for the gardens! We’ll have time to take a little bit of a walk on the beach & talk a bit about seaweeds as well, and be back in time for lunch.
~Please RSVP if you’re attending: we’ll have room for 2 car-loads of people and will leave from the SUB~

You can RSVP by direct messaging the Loaded Ladle, or Dal Urban Garden.
Thanks!

Visit to Treaty Camp

Friday, November 23, 1-7pm

Loaded Ladle and DSUSO have been partnering to make meals for the water protectors at Treaty Camp since last January. We’d love to invite some of the volunteers who have been helping to make these meals happen, and others interested in learning about the camp, to join us for a visit to camp to share a meal and help with some winterizing projects.

We’ll be leaving from/dropping people off at the SUB and renting the Our Rising community bus: we ask folks to please kick in $5 (the ticket is by donation, found here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/publish?crumb=436e88b7f52975&eid=52722457289
(Nobody turned away for lack of funds though, of course).

*This event has a limited number of spots, so please get your ticket on Eventbrite to ensure you are able to come!

We also ask folks if they feel able to bring a gift for the camp: some of the things that would be helpful are
– batteries, warm socks, warm layers, hats, candles, toothpaste, blankets, and money so they can buy what they need.

Up until Friday Nov 23rd, you can also drop these items off at the Loaded Ladle/Nspirg office, in the basement of the SUB.

If you know any friends who have been wanting to support but not sure how, let them know. Thank you!
