When do the Loaded Ladle Servings at the SUB happen?

Our servings run in the Fall (Sep – early Dec) and Winter (Jan – early Apr) semesters. Our servings start at 1 pm (Tuesday – Friday) and go until food runs out.

Weekly Loaded Ladle Prep Party, Mondays 4-6pm

This is our prep party! If you want to do food prep for the rest of the week (cutting potatoes, carrots, onions, more onions, and, oh yes, onions), this is your chance!

Daily Meal Prep, Tuesdays – Fridays

9:00-11:00am: This is another mostly prep shift – maybe cutting or shredding veggies, making cake batter, or starting to prepare salads!

11:00am-1:00pm: This shift makes the final preparations for the serving – baking cakes, making salad dressings, spicing the stew (think less chopping veggies, more finishing up the already-cooking food). It could also involve helping set up the serving area!

1:00-1:45 pm: This is mostly the serving shift with some cleaning. Serving is pretty straightforward – just handing out food to the many people wanting to eat a delish Ladle lunch.

1:30 pm – 3 pm: Cleaning shift with some late serving! It involves helping to clean the serving and prep spaces (wiping down surfaces, doing dirty dishes, etc). The cleaning shift may not be glamorous, but it makes everything else we do possible!

What kind of food do you serve?

Do I have to be a student to eat at the Ladle?

No way, pal! We welcome anyone and everyone to join us in the kitchen, to share a meal. We have a donation jar at our servings and encourage folks to donate if they can, but we never turn anyone away, until we run out of food!

What do I need to eat at the Ladle?

Join the line! It normally starts by the wall behind the garbage bins. We will inform the folks in the front of the line around 1 pm when we are ready to serve, the line may be long, but it moves fairly quickly once we start serving. Consider bringing your own container and utensils. We only have limited plates and utensils and often run out during the serving.

My class is at 1 pm and I cannot make it to the line physically?

You can ask a friend to help or bring a container for the silent line-up. Bring a Tupperware container and leave it on the right-hand side of the serving area outside the gate. Make sure you have your initials on it, and please specify your dietary needs (e.g. gluten-free). We will fill your container and you can pick it up from 1:40 pm- 2:30 pm (depending on the speed of clean-up). Please note, we serve the line up first helpings, then fill the containers folks have left. Consequently, we may occasionally run out of one or more selections on a given day.

We cannot guarantee you will be able to pick up your container after we finish clean-up and close up for the day. If you drop off a container in the morning and it is not ready when you come by the kitchen, join the line and we will fill your container when it is your turn. In a hurry and running for your class but your container is still not ready? We are sorry, but it happens. We will still fill it with food, and you can come and pick it up on the next day.

Have too many unloved and underused utensils, mason jars, Tupperware (with matching lids, please!) at home? Consider donating these gently used items to us! We appreciate your contribution to our servings program.
